 FEATURED APPLICATION

iCopter Classic

Smackall Games Pvt Ltd

***

We've all seen it, and now we all want it. iCopter Classic is an age old computer game now brought to the iPhone and iPod Touch. The game by far one of the most addicting game I have played on the iPod. Best of all, it is free from the iTunes App Store!

The menu is very easy to navigate. Four options: New Game, Options, High Scores, and Credits. Under Options, You can choose the speed of your helicopter (1-15). The is also a Gravity setting, (1-5g's). The more G-force you have, the faster your helicopter will fall. You can also mess around with the color spectrum to choose the color of your setting. This game also allows you to connect to Facebook!

In the game, you tap and hold on your touch screen to accelerate the heli, which makes it go up, and release to make it go down. The point of the game is to navigate around blocks in the middle of your path, without hitting them. Since it is the free version, there is ads on the bottom. You can get rid of these by buying the Pro version of iCopter Classic.

Overall, the game is a great pick-up if you like addicting games, and this game will have you playing for a while at a time.

Madden NFL 2010

Electronic Arts, Inc.

****

This is a fantastic app that utilizes the iPod's multi-touch feature. It uses a virtual joystick on the bottom left while there is a set of up to six buttons on the right side. These six include sprint, tackle, intercept, tackle, and more. It features all thirty of the NFL teams, with the most up-to-date rosters. You can also obviously trade players at your own will.

The app opens up with the Madden 10 logo and loads after with a miniature football in the bottom right corner. The options on the menu are: Play now, season, playoffs, multiplayer(over bluetooth), rosters, options, help, and more games from EA. The only complaint I have is the the multiplayer feature does not allow you to play over wi-fi, only bluetooth on your iPhone or iPod Touch.

When you go to "Play Now," a screen shows up that allows you to choose the two opposing teams. You can also change the uniforms for each team, that you can buy from the "Madden Store" which is also built into the game. For the sake of the review, I chose Bears vs. Packers. It then flies around the arena for a few seconds before heading to midfield for the coin toss. The team on the road, the Bears, get to choose heads or tails, and they chose tails and won, so I will be kicking off. The five options to kickoff are: Left, Middle, Right, Double Cross, and Onside Kick. I will be going down the middle. It then shows you kicking off, with an arrow that allows you to aim your kick, as well as a meter you slide your finger on to determine the power of the kick. Drag the meter down, then back up to kick off. The Bears fumbled the ball on the kickoff, and I recovered, so I will start on offense. There are four options on top for the offense: Run, Short Pass, Long Pass, and Special. There are many different plays under each category. You can also choose your play by formation(singleback, I-form, etc.)

There are three buttons on the offense. You can change the play, view the current play, or edit the play. You slide back on the virtual joystick to snap the ball. In my case, Aaron Rodgers will have the choice to throw it to four players on the play I chose. All you have to do is tap the player you want to throw it to, and it will. There are circles around your players: red, yellow, and green. Green obviously means the player has a good chance of catching the ball, and red means a bad chance. Once you get a touchdown, the PAT is very similar to the kickoff, with the aiming arrow and power meter in the same spots.

Overall, I recommend this application for the very good price of $6.99. I give the application four stars.
